Nestled in the charming suburb of Petone, the House of Good Fortune is a delightful café that beckons with its warm atmosphere and tantalizing menu. Situated at 52 Fitzherbert Street, Lower Hutt, this gem has become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike over the past four years.

As you step inside, you'll be greeted by a relaxed vibe enhanced by the friendly chatter of patrons enjoying their time. The interior exudes a quirky charm that invites you to linger longer, whether it’s for a morning coffee or an afternoon treat.

The menu is a diverse tapestry of flavors, catering to the health-conscious while also offering delightful indulgences for everyone else. From the moment you approach the enticing cabinet filled with mouthwatering options, the temptation to try everything becomes almost irresistible. Customer Mary Ann Rebera described it perfectly, noting how the food looks “so appealing it’s hard to choose just one.”

Indulge in the "ridiculously off the hook" cheese and onion scone or savor a perfectly brewed flat white that meets the high expectations of any Wellingtonian coffee lover, as echoed by Steve Humphrey. For a light meal, the smoked salmon bagel is a must-try—a delightful combination that hits all the right notes.

The offerings don’t just stop at standard café fare. You'll find a wonderful array of gluten-free and vegan options that are refreshingly delicious, like the reimagined sausage roll that lets you enjoy the flavors without the pastry, as noted by satisfied customer Y Powers.

The atmosphere here is not just about the food; it’s about the experience. Both Jacob de Feijter and Lulu Xu commend the friendly staff and enjoyable setting, making it a lovely place to unwind. However, as it’s a popular spot, be prepared to enjoy a little adventure in finding parking nearby.

Overall, House of Good Fortune offers a unique experience beckoned by good food, great coffee, and warm service. Whether you're a local in search of your next favorite café or a traveler seeking a cozy pitstop, this café promises to deliver more than just a meal. It's a delightful retreat that will leave you counting down the days until your next visit.

OMG......how did I not know this place has been in Fitzherbert Street in Petone for the last 4 years or so?!!! Relaxed vibe, friendly service, and great food. Good selection for the health conscious and even for the less carnivorous amongst us. The cheese and onion scone is ridiculously off the hook good, and the coffee is exactly what we expect as coffee loving Welingtonians....bloody good. The only disappointment was I should have bought 2 scones they're soooooo good!

Lovely place for good coffee and interesting food. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. It is a very popular place so it may be difficult to find parking nearby.

Quirky yet oozing charm You will be spoiled for choice at this place. The cabinet food looks so appealing, it’s hard to choose just one. Food didn’t disappoint at all, not too pricey either. Loved the variety of choices, there are some stuff you don’t see everywhere. Friendly staff too. Highly recommended.

Great selection of GF and V food along with regular food. The sausage roll removed pastry so I could savor it! Have visited a few times in the last month. They change up the food offerings and always delights. Coffee is fabulous as expected.

It is a cozy, vintage style coffee shop. Because of its pleasant and welcoming vibe. You could easily spend a long time hanging out at this place. It reminds me of a cafe in Christchurch, which was similar in style. The only fly in the ointment that food was a little bit expensive based on LH. My toast didn’t have any seasoning. The bottom of tart was hard and overall sweet, but it was very good with coffee.
